Which factors are impacting the satisfaction of bedside nurses?
From September to October 2013, Jackson Healthcare, in partnership with Care Logistics and Jackson Nurse Professionals, surveyed hospital-based RNs about how nursing is changing.
Key Study Findings:
- Nurses are generally satisfied in their work, but believe the profession has changed for the worse. Job satisfaction has a direct bearing on a nurse’s outlook for the future of the profession.
- Nurses are responsible for patient throughput, but are saddled with peripheral responsibilities that take them away from bedside duties.
- Nurses feel pressured to secure positive patient satisfaction scores to the point their interactions with patients seem artificial, even scripted.
This survey was conducted online from September through October 2013. Invitations for the survey were emailed to 59,336 RNs, which included those who have been placed by Jackson Healthcare staffing companies and those who have not.
1,333 hospital-based RNs participated in the survey. Respondents were self-selected and represented each specialty and region of the U.S. The error range for this survey is +/- 2.7% at a 95% confidence level.
